Other Movies/Shows
This section is dedicated to a bunch of the other movies and shows that you've seen newsies in. (I am aware that there are more, please do not e-mail me telling me that.) They are in alphabetical order, so scroll through to find a certain one. :) Read and see if you would want to watch that movie/show, and please remember that these are my opinions, so don't get mad over anything stupid. Also, I rated how much a movie relates to Newsies by papes. (Now remember that it is HOW MUCH A MOVIE RELATES TO NEWSIES not HOW MUCH I LIKED THE MOVIE. That's important for you to know.) So now, without any further adieu, I give you Newsie Related Movies and Shows!Title: American Psycho
Newsies Featured: Christian Bale (Jack Kelly)
Description:
American Psycho was rated R for good reason. I mean, just look at the name! It’s about a top executive at a company in New York, who’s name is Patrick Bateman, (aka Christian Bale) who develops the taste for killing people. How fun! He goes on a killing spree taking out his colleagues, girlfriends, and lots of other innocent people that he meets.
How it Relates to Newsies:
So basically, this movie is as far as it gets from Newsies, except for the fact that Christian is the main character. But really, other than that, it has NOTHING Newsies related in in. (I mean, the only part is when Christian Bale is talking about getting his sheets in Santa Fe ^^;;) So please be at least 17 before you watch this movie… it’s bad.
Where You Can Find it:
You can find it anywhere. Online, Target, Wal-Mart, any movie store, etc.

This movie was rated “the best Batman yet” by critics the world over. I very much agree, because it wasn’t “cheesy” but was actually more realistic. Christian did an excellent job as Bruce Wayne/Batman, and if you haven’t seen it yet, you should. It basically traces back to the beginning of Bruce’s life and thoroughly explains how and why he became Batman. Very good movie.
This movie doesn’t relate to Newsies much either, but it is obviously jam packed with Christian Bale, which is great for any Jack fan. : ) Or, if you are just looking for a good clean (besides violence) movie that has a newsie in it, watch this one.
Find it online, and at ANY movie store, as well as Wall-Mart or Target.
Blood Drips is about Don Knots (played by Mark David) who desperately wants to be in the movie Newsies, so when he is rejected by the director, he go's on a killing spree, taking out each Newsie one by one. It is actually very well done for a normal video camera and it was directed by Michael Goorjian, produced by Max Casella and Trey Parker and shot by Ivan Dudynsky.
You cannot find anything that relates to Newsies more than this little gem. And no, this isn’t a joke, this is a real home-movie that was filmed by the cast, on the set of Newsies. This movie is any Newsie-fan’s dream to watch, and I guarantee it is the funniest thing you will ever see.
blooddripsonnewsiessquare.com!! The only place you will ever find it! It is $25, and it is on VHS, but I promise you, it is well worth it!!
This movie didn’t take long to complete, so in a sense kind of reminds me of a made-for-TV film. It’s about the high school loser, Henry Spooner (Michael Goorjian), who makes a deal with the devil to get the girl of his dreams. He eventually gets everything he wants in exchange for his soul. But after he has everything, he decides he doesn’t want everything anymore… if you get what I’m saying.
So this movie only relates to Newsies because of the excessive Skittery in it. (Which is always good.) If you are a Mike fan, he’s in this one a lot, and it’s great to see him in a leading role.
This movie is very hard to come by. It is normally never in stock in any of the online movie stores, and I have never once seen it at a store in person. But if you search enough, you may find it eventually.
Doogie Howser M.D. is a show about the kid doctor, Doogie Howser, and his life in and out of the hospital. In the hospital he is a super genius doctor kid thing that works very hard. Out of the hospital, he has a semi-normal life with his obnoxious, insane, trouble-making, window-climing friend, Vinnie Delpino, who is best known as Max Casella, or our Racetrack.
This show doesn’t really relate to Newsies much, except for the fact that Max is in it…. a lot. This was his first role, and most known role, and he was working on Doogie Howser, before, during, and after the filming of Newsies. Basically, if you are a Race fan, or you want to watch a show that features a Newsie a lot, then Doogie Howser M.D. is for you, because Max is in every episode for a good portion of the time.
Seasons 1, 2, & 3 are the only seasons out at the moment, and you can find them pretty much anywhere, from Best Buy, to Target, and at about every movie store online as well. Season 4 is coming out in April.
One of the best movies of it’s time, Empire of the Sun is an inspiring, action-packed epic of the small boy, Jim Graham (Christian Bale), in a great war. It tells a story of a young boy’s fascination and horror of World War II, while being separated from his parents, held in a Japanese intervenient camp, and witnessing the Hiroshima bombing.
Once again, this movie only related to Newsies due to Christian being in it, and having the leading role. It is an excellent movie, that is very educational (like Newsies), and you get to see Christian Bale in his first major role ever. (And you have to agree, he is adorable. ^^)
Empire of the Sun can be found anywhere from online movie stores to actual movie stores. (I see it all the time at Best Buy.)
Another great Bale movie, this film is very much like “The Matrix,” except I think that it is much easier to understand. ^^;; It takes place in the future, where it is a crime to feel emotion. A special breed of police (lead by Christian Bale) is assigned to eliminate all people who break this law. But when Christian misses his dose of his emotion-blocking drug, he sees the world differently, and has to run from his very own followers.
This movie doesn’t relate to Newsies except for Christian’s lead part in it. It is one of the best of his movies in my opinion, and is great for any Newsies/Jack Kelly fan.
I have seen this movie in all stores that sell DVDs, as well as everywhere online.
The story is about two High Schoolers who try out for the school musical; Troy, the school’s basketball star, and Gabriella, the brainy new student. They have to compete against the school’s two star performers, Sharpay and Ryan, who have starred in every school musical.
This is a very innocent, cute movie for Newsie fans. Since it was directed and choreographed by the same person, it is very similar to Newsies. The dancing style is obviously exactly the same, and the songs are catchy and fun. This movie relates to Newises in many, many ways. It’s a Disney musical about teenage kids that was directed/choreographed by Mr. Ortega. Can you get any closer to Newsies than that?
The movie is almost constantly playing on the Disney Channel. It has not yet been released on DVD however.
My favorite movie of all time (after Newsies of course). It definitely has deserved all of the awards it has won in the festivals. This movie is about a boy named Christopher (Michael Goorjian), who’s long lost father watches his son’s life from afar. Christopher had never known his father, so he had always thought of him as a jerk, but in the end he turns out very different. Throughout the movie, you see Christopher growing up, always trying to win back the girl of his dreams over and over again.
Illusion both starred and was directed by Michael Goorjian, and he did an excellent job. It is a must see for all Skittery fans, and I would recommend it to any Newsies freak as well! (It is coming out in theatres later this year… support Michael Goorjian!)
This movie has not yet come out on DVD yet. It is playing in an extremely limited amount of select theatres, but believe me, it is worth the extra drive!
The story of a mother raising her four “little women,” and guiding them through issues of independence, romance, and virtue. Her very spirited daughter, Jo, falls in love with friend and neighbor, Laurie (Christian Bale). Together Jo, Laurie and her three sisters have great times together until Jo grows up, and moves on to different things, including away from Laurie.
This is a very good family movie, like Newsies, and although Christian Bale isn’t in it as much as he normally would be in other movies, he still does a great job with the role. Most Newsies fans love this movie.
You can find this movie anywhere, and I mean it. Online, Target, Wall-mart, Best Buy, even the occasional Albertson’s… you name it, it’s probably there.
The show that most people know Michael Goorjian from. It is about five orphaned siblings who were left to fend their own way in the world when their parents were killed by a drunk driver. Julia, the second oldest, and a 15 year old high school girl, falls in love with her best friend and next door neighbor, Justin Thompson (Michael Goorjian.) Justin puts up with a lot of Julia’s problems, and proves that he is a great boyfriend.
A show that is often enjoyed by Newsies fans, although Mike only appears in a handful of episodes, and then later more episodes for short periods of time. In a way, he still kind of has that Skittery personality. ^_~
The Season 1 and 2 Party of Five box sets can be found online, at Best Buy, and at other movie stores. But take heed, he is only in 7 episodes in the 1st season, but of course it’s still worth it!! The 2nd season has more Mike episodes.... I believe there's only 3 or 4 he isn't in.
Based after the revolutionary Broadway rock opera, Rent is about bohemians struggling to survive and pay their rent in New York’s East Village. It’s about a group of eight friends who strive for success as they battle through poverty, illness, and the AIDS epidemic.
A very mature musical that deals with a lot of strong issues such as AIDS, sexuality, and drugs. Probably not the best movie for the younger Newsies fans, but is definitely a great movie for the older fans who are open to dealing with the themes at hand. It has the most amazing music you will ever hear from a musical, and it includes two of our very own Newsies. :D (Although they do not have principle rolls. Aaron does open his own song however.) If you love Newsies, you will most likely fall in love with this movie as well. Just like the message of Newsies is to “Seize the Day,” Rent reminds us that there is “No Day but Today.”
Any movie store. Anywhere online. Also at Target and Wal-Mart.
This movie features a very young and adorable Spot, but don’t be fooled, he is without a doubt one of the most notorious kid criminals from the history of film. The movie takes place when Detroit is ridden by a gang of drug dealers and Robocop is the only one who can do something about it. Hob (Gabriel Damon), the kid criminal, swears, hides behind his age to attack with impunity, and ultimately is the mastermind of a drug cartel after his boss was taken out of the picture.
This is a must see for all Spot fans, but really, that is the only reason to watch this movie. ^^;; It’s fun to watch a little badass Spot running around. teehee
This movie is next to impossible to find on DVD, but appears frequently on the internet in used VHS form. But if you look hard enough, you could probably find a DVD as well. (I know it comes in a full set with the other movies on DVD in movie stores, but who wants all 5 million movies? lol)
Roundhouse was a show that played weekly on Nickelodeon starting back in 1992. It is actually very funny, and each episode had a moral or theme strongly worked into it. It is probably one of the most random shows you will ever see because of the lack of transitions from scene to scene, the card board props, the many things that are going on at once. For instance, during the middle of a scene, the cast may randomly break out into a commercial for a made up product, and they quite often make fun of famous people or other shows and movies. Ivan, Dominic, David, and Mark are in it a lot, considering they are in the group of main characters. Unfortunately, Dominic only appears in the first season because he was diagnosed with cancer around the time that the second season started filming. The show lasted for four seasons, and ended in 1994 when Dominic (sadly) died.
This show relates to Newsies in many ways, and I would recommend that any fan of Newsies sits down and watches at least one episode. (But once you watch one, you’ll want to see them all. ^^) First of all, there is a whopping four Newsies in it, which is like BAM! Come on ! How can any Newsie lover pass that up? And it is a very, very musical show. Every episode is filled with song and dance… just like Newsies!
Roundhouse is one of the most sought after Newsie-related shows, because for one, it no longer airs, and secondly, it has never ever been sold on DVD or VHS. Hidden all over the internet there are people willing to make copies of their own Roundhouse episodes for you to purchase. But you generally have to search very hard for them if you are desperate to watch it. ^_~
This is a hilarious movie starring Steve Martin (then of course it’s gonna be funny…) and it’s about a group of good-for-nothing soldiers that fake their drills, and sit around and gambling and shunning responsibility all day. Dino Paparelli (Max Casella) is one of the no good soldiers, and in one scene, he even has to dress in drag! :O
A great movie for you Race fans, but otherwise, it doesn’t relate to Newsies. (You can actually tell that Max looks older in this movie too!)
If you are looking for this movie, your best bet is looking for it in a movie store online. You can find it used but generally in good condition all over the internet.
Basically, SLC Punk is about it’s name; two punks from Salt Lake City (one of them being Heroin Bob, played by Michael Goorjian.) This movie is wacky, and strange, with kick-you-in-the-face comedy. : ) You’ll see lots of rock shows, partying, and beating up red necks in this very.. different… movie.
This movie is actually one of the farthest things from Newsies, except for the fact that Mike Goorjian is in it. I also decided to put it on this page because, like Newsies, SLC Punk also had a sort of cult following, obviously not as much as Newsies, but the point is… it did. Most Newsie lovers also like this movie, so that’s enough right there. : )
Any movie store. Anywhere online. Also, at an occasional Target. Oh, and I’ve also seen it at Hot Topic.
Swing Kids is a movie that was filmed right after Newsies was finished filming. (Literally, when Newsies concluded, Christian Bale got on a plane and left to start this movie.) The movie is about a group of kids in the 1930s who call themselves the “Swing Kids” because they like to… swing… dance. Back in that time, in Nazi Germany, it was forbidden for the kids to swing dance, but the rebellious kids would do it anyways.
Swing Kids relates to Newsies, because Christian Bale is in it (obviously), and because once again, we get to see him dance. : ) Christian’s character, Thomas, also reminds me a lot of Jack Kelly, but I don’t want to spoil the movie for you, go watch it yourself!
I’ve only seen this movie occasionally at movie stores, but you can probably find it at Best Buy. And you can most definitely find it online at Amazon.com and other movie sites.
This is another not-so-good movie for the younger fans. And I am telling you this because it even freaked me out. ^^;; It is a psychological horror that keeps you thinking about it hours after you saw it. And the freakiest part is how Christian looks in it. It’s horrible. But anyways, it’s about a Machinist (duh -_-”) Trevor Reznik (Christian Bale) who hasn’t slept in a year. His lack of sleep has turned him bulimic, and the deterioration of his mental and physical health has made his every waking moment that of an unrelenting state of confusion, paranoia, guilt, anxiety, and terror.
Not the greatest movie for Newsie fans… but if you are a hard core Bale Head, it’s a must see. Christian put himself in danger while making this film, which shows how much of a great *cough* crazy *cough* actor he really is!
Since this movie just came out this year, you can most likely find it in any store that sells movies, as well as online.
This movie takes place during the founding of the Jamestown Settlement in 1607, and is inspired by the legend of John Smith and Pocahontas who fell into a forbidden love. After John Smith was assumed dead, Pocahontas married John Rolph (played by Christian).
This is a great movie for history buffs, but I wouldn’t recommend it for all Newsies fans. I would recommend it more for hard core Bale fans who are willing to sit through an hour and a half of Collin Ferrell before they even see Christian enter the story. It was a good movie though, even if it didn’t relate to Newsies much. Christian does appear in the movie for about 45 minutes.
It has not yet been released on DVD. It came out in theaters on January 20th, 2006.
I love this movie because of how cheesy it is. (Well, I wouldn’t call it love…) It’s about a boy, Greg, who moves in to a new town and who desperately wants to make his new school’s Football team. He meets a new friend, Denny Leblanc (Max Casella), who gives him advice on how to deal with the school bully, and how to get the girl he wants. Greg meets the ghost of an old star football played who helps him in his training to make the football team.
Max Casella is in it… the only reason to watch it. Or you could just laugh at the other parts. ^^;; But yea, you’ve gotta be a Race fan to appreciate this one.
It’s pretty hard to find… but I’m sure you could find it in any online movie store, (because it is nowhere else.)
